About Vera and Costa Almeria
Sun and beach
Almería offers the fullest range of sun and beach leisure in the country, with long beaches of fine golden sand that are well communicated and where visitors can enjoy a wide range of services. But there are also virgin natural spaces with bays at the feet of towering cliffs at the edges of fine natural landscapes.
Bathed by the calm crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean, the beaches of Vera stretch for 6 kilometres:
- El Playazo de Vera: long beach with estates and hotels on the seafront.
- Puerto Rey: next to the estuary of the River Antas, with every type of service. Together with El Playazo, it forms the longest beach in Almería.
- Villajarapa, Pueblo Laguna: parallel to the seafront, like Puerto Rey.
- Las Marinas-Bolagas: fine sand with pier and services. Clean and cared for, with a Blue Flag.
Natural spaces
The east coast of Almería combines wild and mountainous landscapes with kilometres of sun-bathed beaches, giving the visitor uncountable routes for enjoying close contact with nature.
Cabo de Gata Natural Park
Of great ecological interest, the park includes some of the most beautiful coastlines on the Mediterranean, featuring cliffs and lonely bays, extensive beaches and reefs. It is the perfect place for enjoying visits to its fishing villages, the salt flats with their pink flamingos, the lighthouse, the unusual beaches of Mónsul and Genoveses and San José, the nerve centre of the park.
Desierto de Tabernas Natural Park
The only desert in Europe. The visitor can take 4x4 trips and visit the old locations where numerous ‘spaghetti westerns' were filmed in the 1960s and that now form a theme park that re-creates the atmosphere of the Wild West.
Karst Natural Park in Yesos de Sorbas
The Yesos de Sorbas caves are magnificent caverns and galleries forming a unique underground complex, accessed by guided tours of various degrees of difficulty. Of great ecological and environmental value, this natural landscape is outstanding for the formations of pits and galleries that open into impressive caverns filled with stalactites and stalagmites.
